GOLDEN THREAD COMPLIANCE

Your golden thread is a byproduct of using Sablono

In Sablono, trades report as they complete work. Every activity, QA, photograph, defect and signature lands in one connected record, tied to the unit it belongs to and the person who did it.

Nobody sets out to build a golden thread. They deliver the work in Sablono, and the record is the result.

A golden thread you had to assemble was never a golden thread.

Paperwork and email produce mismatched data and a reporting headache. The regulation asks for structured digital information, kept accurate as the building goes up — not a document written about it afterwards.
WHAT YOU GET

Three things that make the record hold up

The golden thread is two things at once: the safety information, and the management of it. Sablono handles both for the construction phase, because the same system runs the work.
STANDARDISATION

Evidence is a condition of sign-off, not a request afterwards

Digital QAs are linked to the unit. The trade fills in the required information and attaches the photographs before the activity can be signed off — so the record is consistent across every unit and every level, because it had to be.
  • Standard terminology and structure, applied by the template rather than by habit
  • Required fields and photo counts set once, enforced everywhere
  • No unit finishes with a thinner record than the one next door
Standardise workflow

Build your Golden Thread as you build

Capture quality evidence, approvals and project records as work happens — creating a traceable digital record throughout delivery.
QUALITY AUDIT TRAIL

One connected record, not four systems agreeing to differ

Progress and quality land in the same place at the same moment, so there is nothing to reconcile later. The company that executed the work, the QA that was completed, the photographs, the time of sign-off and the person who signed — all in one entry, on one unit.
  • Updates happen in the system, not through emails that bypass it
  • Structured and filterable, so the right information reaches the right person
  • Accountability is inherent — every entry has an author

HANDOVER & LONGEVITY

The thread has to outlive the project team

Export the record per unit, per level or per building and hand it to the accountable person as structured data rather than a folder of scans. It stays queryable for decades — which is what makes it worth anything when a claim arrives in year seven.
  • On-demand access to data from projects long since closed out
  • Clear evidence for claims management and risk assessment
  • Exports in open formats, so the next owner's software can read it

PRINCIPLE BY PRINCIPLE

What the golden thread asks for, and what Sablono does about it

The principles behind the golden thread are demanding in the same way good delivery is. Most of them stop being work once the record is produced by the act of building.

Accuracy

Captured in the room at the moment of work, against the current revision of the requirement — not typed up from memory on a Friday afternoon.

Single source of truth

Progress and quality report into the same record. Updates happen in the system rather than through emails that quietly bypass it.

Accountability

Every entry carries the company, the person, the time and the evidence. Nobody has to reconstruct who did what.

Consistency

Workflow templates and digital QAs impose one structure and one vocabulary on every unit, level and block — including across the supply chain.

Accessibility

Structured and filterable by unit, level, activity, trade or date, and exportable as a pack for whoever is asking.

Longevity

The trail persists for decades and exports in open formats, so it survives the project team, the contract and the software the next owner chooses.

Security

Enterprise-grade hosting with role-based access, so the record is shared with the supply chain without being exposed to it.

AUDIT TRAIL AND COMPLIANCE

FAQs

What is the golden thread? It is two things: the safety information about a building, and the management of that information. It has to be held as structured digital information, kept accurate and up to date through design, construction and occupation, and handed on so the right people can find what they need at the time they need it.
Which buildings does it apply to? Buildings at least 18 metres tall or with at least seven storeys, including care homes and hospitals meeting the same threshold during design and construction. Dutyholders carry the obligation during design and construction; the accountable person carries it during occupation.
How does Sablono create it? Trades report in Sablono as they complete work. Standardised workflows and digital QAs require the information and photographs before an activity can be signed off, and every entry records the company, the person, the time and the revision. The audit trail is the accumulation of that, unit by unit.
Is Sablono the whole golden thread? No. Sablono carries the construction record — what was built, inspected, corrected and approved, by whom and when. Design documents, as-built drawings and commissioning certificates come from your design and services teams and sit alongside it.
Can the accountable person use it after handover? That is the point of exporting it as structured data rather than scans. The record stays queryable for years, which is what makes it useful for risk assessments, resident questions and claims long after the project team has moved on.
